In the second half of 1861 directions appeared in Mississippi newspapers for an overcoat substitute made from "ordinary Navy blankets" (a standard blanket size somewhat smaller than the army issue blankets most are familiar with).  Receipts from the 6th Mississippi show a lack of overcoats having been issued, with a number of "blanket coats" provided in their place.  This kit will include a single Navy blanket with the tape, cording, and buttons, required to modify the blanket into a coat (no cutting is required, so it can be removed later if desired with no damage done to the blanket) and directions with a bit more clarity than those in the original article, with shipping to you prior to the event.
