The popular Southern ersatz “Confederate Candle” was made from long pieces of wick with a thin coat of wax, that was then wrapped around a base of some sort such as a corn cob or bottle. Made just like the originals, these candles will last a long time.  You just have to pay a little more attention to them and make sure to slowly unwind the candle as it burns.
