Many of the reproduction boxes sold to the living history community bear little resemblance to the originals they are intended to mimic. The sizes are wrong or made to fit modern products, the wood is not planed down to the appropriate thickness, and the stencils are poor digital creations rather than direct copies of the original stencil. Not so with these boxes made by Austin Fox. These are copied right from the originals, the stencils are near perfect matches, and rather than having a faux lid are made to appear as if they have been opened, some with partial broken lids and all complete with nail holes.
This Confederate field-made desk or trunk is copied from an original used by a member of Company I, 60th Virginia Infantry. Made from a Richmond Arsenal ammunition crate, the missing lid was replaced with a piece of lumber held on with leather hinges and held closed with a modified gate hasp. These boxes work well to hold company paperwork or for an officer to keep his personal items in and store in the regiment's officers' baggage wagon rather than carry a knapsack.
Shipping is not available for any boxes. All will be delivered at check in at a future Liberty Rifles event.
