There's not very many surviving hats that are ID'd to Confederate soldiers from the Gettysburg Campaign.  Knowing that the 17th Virginia had been issued only a limited number of Richmond caps, we figured we should pick one of those rare surviving original Reb hats from July 1863 and have it reproduced for our Picket Post Group Buy.

J.T. Ferrell's reproduction is made from a light colored felt that, like the original, will darken rather quickly with grime.  It includes a narrow crown ribbon, no binding on the brim as the original shows no evidence of ever having any, and a plain leather and cotton sateen lining.  And being a rather simple piece (and probably a cheap domestically-made hat rather than an imported one), the price isn't bad either.
