While very obsolete by the time of the Civil War, linstocks were often issued to both U.S. and C.S. batteries, and were even used with some regularity in Confederate batteries when they were provided with slow match, portfires, and priming tubes instead of the more modern friction primers. Each gun should have one, and a linstock might be required for Confederate impressions depending upon the unit being portrayed.
