Yeah, not kidding, the Fluvanna Artillery was actually provided with mattress ticks, and some (particularly those used by mounted men who had not recently lost their baggage like the cannoneers) were around in early 1864.  If you'd like something to stuff your issued straw bedding into rather than just tossing your ground cloth over it, here you go.
