Richmond wasn't the only place to do it--when thousands of U.S. Army canteens were left behind at Chickamauga, Georgia shops were put to work refurbishing the captured canteens for reissue.  As per the original with 1864 Georgia provenance, this canteen has no cover, a replacement spout made of folded tin, a replacement stopper, and a new sling (the "Hughes, Pendergrass, and Snow" sling most are familiar with).
