Replace the crummy brass I buttons with modern shanks that were used on reproduction Confederate jackets for years only because nothing better was available.  These buttons are excellent reproductions of the crude locally-made infantry buttons commonly dug at ANV sites and seen on one extant Richmond jacket.  They feature an uncoated red brass or copper face, not bright yellow brass, and a tin back just like the originals.
