Most reproduction thumbstalls are junk. These are copied from an original Civil War field artillery thumbstall (not a Navy thumbstall) from buckskin (not rando craft store rawhide), stuffed with horsehair (not a cotton ball, if anything). They're rather thin save for the pad of course, and are entirely hand sewn.  These are REQUIRED in each limber chest.
